Welcome to our May web page. There are many things coming up so let's look at the month ahead...
READING:
We are working on Unit 5. Our unit theme is "Cultures." Students will read and discuss what happens when two different lives come together. At the beginning of each week look for the Family Times page in your child's folder. You'll have family activities to help your child with the weekly story, comprehension skills, vocabulary, grammar skills, and spelling words.AT HOME: Read the weekly story aloud to practice fluency and study vocabulary words.
GRAMMAR:
Adjectives will be studied in this unit. Students will learn the proper usage of adjectives. We'll be learning and using the Six-Traits of Writing. At Home: Use these traits in your weekly writing assignment.SPELLING:
A weekly spelling list will be sent home on Monday. Before each Friday test we review by playing "Sparkle." AT HOME: Practice spelling words.MATH:
We're working on graphing and probability. We will study tally charts, pictographs, bar and line graphs. We will also be graphing coordinate pairs. Multiplication set tests will continue to be sent home at the beginning of each week. Timed tests will be given on Friday. Problem solving and writing to explain will be worked on in each lesson.
AT HOME: Practice your multiplication facts for speed and accuracy.SCIENCE:
We're learning about weather. Activities and experiments will make learning this unit fun!SOCIAL STUDIES:
Students will be learning about communities. Map skills are a part of each lesson.HEALTH:
Along with Character Traits students are learning what makes a healthy life style.PENMANSHIP:
Students are excited about learning cursive writing. We will be starting with lowercase letters with the undercurve. AT HOME: Practice basic strokes and letters.Parents, please check your child's folder each day. Making sure backpacks are cleaned out and packed, pencils are sharpened, and homework is completed helps your child to be ready to learn each day. This makes for a successful day. It's the little things you do that matter a lot.
