Mrs. Walker's Third Grade Class Where Learning Is Fun
![]()

Welcome to our May web page. A great big thank you to those parents who made our Cinco de Mayo party full of fun.
READING:
We will continue working in Unit Five in our reading series. This unit's theme is "Cultures." We will read about and discuss what happens when two ways of life come together. I am very proud of the students and the wonderful job they have been doing adjusting to the new reading series. Partner reading the story of the week with Mom or Dad is always a good way to improve fluency. At the beginning of each week look for the Family Times page in your child's folder. It will include family activities to help your child with the weekly story, comprehension skills, vocabulary, grammar skills, and spelling words. Remember to practice new vocabulary words each day so Friday's vocabulary test will be a breeze!!
GRAMMAR:
Throughout Unit Five we will study the proper usage of all types of Adjectives. We will use these skills to help improve our daily writing. We will also be practicing the six traits of good writing. Remind your children to use these traits to put a little "SPICE" in their writing pieces. Write'em Cowboy!
SPELLING:
Remember to study, and practice using spelling list words each week. Because we all learn in different ways, practice the method that works best for you. A spelling test will be given each Friday. All 100's will be displayed on "Our Best In The West" bulletin board for everyone to see!
MATH:
We will begin Chapter 12-Fractions. We will also continue to practice our multiplication facts 0-12. Multiplication timed tests have begun and will be given weekly. We will also continue to work with problem solving strategies. Be sure to complete your math homework nightly! Also continue to spend time each night drilling and practicing multiplication facts for speed and accuracy.
HEALTH:
This year our Health program will include learning about what makes a healthy lifestyle. We will also learn how to have good character through our Character Counts program.SOCIAL STUDIES:
Communities is our theme for the school year. We'll be learning about communities in our country, and around the world. Map skills are also a part of our weekly lessons.SCIENCE:
Like scientists, we will be studying topics such as the animal and plant kingdoms, the solar system, our body, volcanoes, and many others. Activities, experiments, and projects will make all our units exciting.
PENMANSHIP:
We are all excited about learning cursive writing! We'll continue with the upper case letters and their connections in words.Parents:
Please review your child's homework folder and assignment sheet each day for assignments, projects, and test dates. Help your child by checking to make sure their homework is completed, their pencils are sharpened, and all their books and supplies are in their schoolbags. Please sign your child's assignment sheet when all homework has been completed and return it to school. These little things really do make a difference! You may also use this sheet as means of communication with me. Thank you in advance for your continued support! Together we can make this a "ROOTIN' TOOTIN' YEAR!"
